An 88 year old woman was rescued after a fire broke out at her home at 8699 Hartshorn about 9:20p.m. on Saturday evening.
East Pembroke Fire Chief Don Newton happened to be in the area at the time of the fire and immediately called in for a second alarm with fire crews from the Town of Batavia, Corfu, Darien, and Alexander ambulance along with Mercy medics responding.
“When we first got here we had flames coming from the front porch up the front of the house covering the front door and the roof area,” says Newton.
When the first engine arrived on location, fire crews were able to quickly knock down the flames at the front door.
“We were able to get interior guys inside from East Pembroke and the Town of Batavia, they did find the subject and got her out of the house, she was alive and doing pretty good when she left here.”
Genesee County Fire Investigators are on scene and looking into possible electrical issues.
“Based on what the first arriving units saw was an exterior fire on the porch, low, so we are investigating that and anything electrical in that vicinity. There is an electrical outlet they are looking at,” says Tim Yaeger, Genesee County Fire Coordinator.
