A Genesee County grand jury filed a 13 count indictment against Denzell A. Johnson, 27, of Rochester, after he allegedly fled from a police enforcement detail that was being conducted in the area of Ellicott and Otis street in the City of Batavia on January 30, 2020.
In an attempt to evade police, Johnson allegedly drove through a yard and in the the backyard area of 255 South Swan street, where he and his passenger then fled the moving vehicle and led police on a foot pursuit.
Johnson and the passenger separated during the foot pursuit, with Johnson running across Jackson School property.
Johnson was arrested and allegedly found with a loaded 9mm handgun, and a quantity of controlled substances, cocaine and methamphetamine.
The passenger in the vehicle, Shafatiah H. Miller, 26, of Rochester, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, a class B felony, promoting prison contraband 1st, a class D felony, promoting prison contraband 2nd and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The indictment accuses Johnson of criminal possession of a weapon 2nd, a class C armed violent felony, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd, a class D felony, criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, a class E felony, criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, criminally using drug paraphernalia 2nd, obstruction of governmental administration 2nd, unlawful fleeing a police officer 3rd, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd, unlicensed operation and knowingly using an imitation or counterfeit official certificate of inspection.
