Attica , NY – An officer processing outside mail for inmates discovered marijuana and Suboxone strips hidden inside three packs of cigarettes at the maximum security prison.
On Tuesday, February 2, the officer noticed an odor of marijuana coming from three packs of Newport cigarettes. Upon inspection, he saw that the foil on the packs had been tampered with. The packs were opened and 53 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was hidden inside the packs. In addition, the officer found six strips of Suboxone in the packs. The drugs, which were mailed from a location in Rochester, were seized as evidence.
“The trend of drugs that come in through the mail to inmates continues to be a serious concern for our membership and their safety. Many of the drugs seized can cause inmates to be very violent and uncontrollable. This isn’t an isolated incident, it is occurring in prisons across the state! We have consistently called on DOCCS to install the Secure Vendor Program and our voice will continue to be loud and clear until they do.” – said Mark Deburgomaster , Western Region Vice President.
