On February 25, 2021 at 6:01p.m., a Batavia Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on Otis Street after observing a traffic violation. After officers had the occupants out of the vehicle, the passenger, later identified as Dejon J. Smith, 21 of Rochester, fled from officers.
After a brief foot pursuit, and with the assistance of K-9 Officer Quider and K-9 Batu, Smith was located in a storage shed behind a residence on Ellicott Street.
Suspected crack cocaine and marijuana was recovered at the scene of the traffic stop, and additional crack cocaine was located inside of the storage shed on Ellicott Street.
Both men were subsequently arrested.
Smith is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree – with intent to sell, criminal Possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, burglary in the third degree, unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration.
Smith was arraigned in Batavia City Court, released, and is to appear on April 8, 2021 at 2:00p.m.
After Smith was released on these charges, he was turned over to Irondequoit Police Department on an unrelated warrant.
The driver of the vehicle, Germayne D. Session, 27, of Rochester, is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked registration, unlicensed operation, and unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree.
Session was released on appearance tickets to appear on April 20, 2021 at 1:00p.m..
No one was injured during the incident.
