About 20 local law enforcement officers from Genesee County participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run on Thursday morning, despite the fact that the Summer Special Olympic Games will not be held this year due to COVID.

Local regional competitions are taking place along with some training.

According to Kelley Ligozio with Special Olympics, they are only allowed 50 participants, athletes and coaches.

“We need more PPE, and more training fields, this supports our initiative to slowly get our athletes back in the game. They are running for inclusion and out athletes,” says Ligozio.

At the end of today’s Torch Run, Colleen Fisher accepted the torch and brought it through the ARC of Genesee/Orleans parking lot on Walnut street, to cheers and clapping from all those on hand.
