An eighth-grade student in Karen LaDuke’s art class at Alexander Central School, designed the winning entry through a public online vote.
Riley Wall’s design depicts a blue and green field with an ear of corn being held up by a pair of diverse hands symbolizing the importance of agriculture, local food, and the diversity of Genesee County’s farming community.
The flag was displayed all day on Monday at the Genesee County Courts Facility.
The contest was public engagement activity of the Genesee 2050 project, an effort to update the County’s Comprehensive and Recreation Plans. More information available at www.Genesee2050.com.
A new permanent Genesee County flag will be announced in the coming weeks, and Wall’s flag is in the running.
