This past holiday weekend the GLOW Academy Legion 10U team battled in the NYS Cal-Ripken tournament and walked away as back to back state champions.
During the state tournament held in Batavia, the team played against Elmira, Jamestown and North Buffalo. The team came out on top and qualified for a bid to the Mid-Atlantic 10U Cal-Ripken Regional Tournament in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, representing WNY July 14-19th. They will play at least four games and battle for a chance to go to the Cal -Ripken World Series in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The 10U GLOW Academy Legion baseball team is made up of kids from Batavia, Pembroke, Perry, Oakfield, Byron- Bergen and Elba.
The coaches are trying to make sure that all the kids can participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity. The team has started a fundraiser to help offset the travel expenses incurred by the families. The GLOW Academy Legion 10U baseball team is made up of 13 kids from across Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties and have been practicing since January.
They started their season off winning an indoor tournament at Pinnacle in Victor, followed by the Darien Lake Tournament in Pembroke, where they finished in 2nd place. During the season, they played against the Cayuga Heat, Churchville Saints, Central Amherst, and others and have battled hard all season.
“This team is a mixture of thirteen wonderful kids ranging in age 8-10 years old with hearts of gold and a passion for baseball, they have grown tremendously from day one as a team to become what they are now, champions,” says Coach Brandon Hall.
