Press release
A day at the hospital can come with many emotions for patients, staff and visitors, some good and some not so good.
When the pandemic began, one of UMMC’s cardiologists did what he could to bring comfort and hope to staff and patients through music.
Harry McCrea, MD, Cardiologist, pulls out his guitar and plays as often as he can, outside or inside the hospital, depending on the weather.

Dr. McCrea has been singing and playing for his family, friends and neighbors for about 5 years. He says he has been providing a lunch hour stress relief and recharge for folks working and visiting UMMC for about 6 months. When he is not outside during the summer, he is in the lobby in the winter, as his schedule allows.
“Its been a tough six months, that’s why this is more super important now than ever. This last year and a half has been really tough with COVID. For me, I do a lot of this for stress relief, with not being able to play out,” says Dr. McCrea.
“This is something I really enjoy doing, really makes me feel at peace and this goes back to finding your 15 minutes a day, this is super important.”
