BATAVIA/Man charged with assault after person suffers serious physical injury, K-9 Batu locates suspect who was on probation and wanted on a warrant

Michael J. Perkins, 49, was arrested on July 25, 2021 at 12:05AM, following a domestic disturbance on Ellicott Street. During the incident, Perkins allegedly assaulted another person resulting in serious physical injury, took their phone while they were attempting to call 9-1-1 and applied pressure to their neck, causing difficulty breathing.

Perkins then fled the residence prior to patrols arrival.

K9 Officer Quider and K9 Batu responded to the scene and were able to quickly deploy on a track. K9 Batu successfully located Perkins as he was attempting to flee through backyards and a city park in the area.

Perkins was taken into custody without further incident.

Subsequently, it was also determined that Perkins was on Federal Probation and had a warrant as well.

Perkins was arraigned in Batavia City Court on July 25, 2021 and held on bail.

He is to appear in Batavia City Court on July 27, 2021 at 9:30AM.
