On July 26th, at around 5:05PM, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office 911 center received a call of a male with a gunshot wound at the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club in the Town of Perry.
Emergency Personnel were dispatched to the scene and had found a 46 year old male from Perry had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower portion of the body. It was determined the victim had been shooting at steel targets at one of the designated shooting ranges at the club. A bullet had ricocheted off the target, back towards the victim, striking him.
Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, along with Officers from the Perry Police Department and NYS Police, assisted the Town of Perry Ambulance and Monroe Medics in getting the victim stabilized and loaded into the Ambulance, so he could be airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for critical life saving measures.
The victim was transported to the Village of Perry Park, where a landing zone had been created by the Perry Fire Department. The victim was then transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial, where he received treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
No charges are being pursued.
