Batavia native John McGowan has opened an insurance office at City Center, near the northwest entrance, to assist those turning 65 or those who are over 65, with signing up for Medicare plans.
The open enrollment period begins in a few days, October 15th and runs through December 7th.
McGowan says he considers himself a Medicare translator and can help people understand the process as it relates to each person’s situation.
McGowan has been in the insurance business for 20 years and started assisting Medicare customers about 6 years ago when he was helping his grandmother.
“I needed to help my grandmother, my friends and my father who turned 65 and was still working,” says McGowan.
His dad had many questions, should he stay on his group plan or should he come off of it.
McGowan says there are also many questions as far as prescription options, specialists, doctors and deciding on what plan is better depending on where you live, if you are going to be a part time resident, or will you be traveling.
McGowan says he offers a personalized service and a one on one environment in the new office inside City Center, 31 Batavia City Center, Suite 31.
“People are getting peppered with infomercials and mailings telling them what to do which creates more confusion. People need transparency.”
McGowan also deals in business and life insurance in Batavia and assists offices in Buffalo and Rochester as a Medicare Resource person, but at the new office in City Centre, The McGowan Insurance Group will only assist those looking for help signing up for the right Medicare plan for their situation.
John McGowan can be reached at 585-250-4611 at the new office.
