In a Genesee County COVID-19 Update via Zoom, Public Health Director Paul Pettit says to stay home when sick.
“COVID mirrors other illnesses like cold, flu and allergies. The best thing you can do right now is stay home when sick. We are still in the midst of a this pandemic. COVID is still here and the reality is COVID is not done with us and we can’t pick or choose.”
Pettit says Genesee and Orleans Counties are considered high transmission areas for COVID-19 under CDC Guidance.
The 7 day positivity rate in Genesee County is 8.1%.
The 7 day positivity rate in Orleans County is 7.8%.
NYS positivity rate as of 11/3/21 2.43%
Pettit advised to get back to the previous practice of social distancing and using a mask when indoors, especially during the holiday season approaching.
“Until we change strategy we will have to persevere and think of others, like wearing a mask, staying home when sick. It’s a long haul and we have to stay steadfast and stay the course.”
GENESEE COUNTY-From 8/1 to 11/1/21
1,891 new positive cases, 435 of those were vaccinated, 1,259 were not vaccinated/unknown status. A 27% breakthrough rate.
ORLEANS COUNTY- From 8/1-11/1/21

“Of the breakthrough cases, there is mild symptomology and this supports the efficacy of the vaccine and the importance of getting vaccinated. With Delta there have been more breakthrough cases. It is working, it is preventing disease from spreading and keeping people out of the hospital and most importantly dying from COVID,” says Pettit.
In closing of the 45 minute update, Legislature Chairperson Shelly Stein commented, “Without public health recovery their will not be an economic recovery.”
