On November 11, 2021, at 3:30 a.m. Officer Kramell of the Perry Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Short Street at Covington Street, for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
Upon meeting with the suspect, 26-year-old Brandon M. Beach, of Cohocton, NY, Officer Kramell suspected Beach to be intoxicated. Officer Kramell requested Beach submit to standardized field sobriety tests, which he complied.
Beach did not perform the tests as instructed and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
After further investigation, Officer Kramell suspected drug activity to be present. It was discovered that Beach was allegedly in possession of felony amounts of methamphetamine. Due to the presence of the alleged methamphetamine and Beach’s admissions to Officer Kramell, as well as his performance on the standardized field sobriety tests, Officer Kramell suspected that Beach may be impaired by drugs. A drug recognition expert (DRE) was requested and Sgt. Reagan of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, who is a DRE, met with Beach at the Perry Police Department to conduct the evaluation. It was the Sgt’s expert opinion that Beach was impaired by multiple drug categories and therefore was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely on a public highway.
Beach is charged with uninspected motor vehicle, no/improper turn signal, DWI, driving with a BAC .08% or higher, driving while ability impaired by drug(s), driving while ability impaired by drugs combination, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 4th degree.
He was processed at the Perry Police Department and arraigned in Warsaw Village Court on the above charges. Beach was released to a sober third part and is to appear in Perry Village Court on December 21, 2021.
Assisting with the investigation was Sgt. Reagan (WCSO) and Sgt. Russel (Perry PD).
