Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Nunda, New York resident on felony firearms possession charges and other NY vehicle and traffic law charges following an investigation by the Perry Police Department.
On December 17th, 2021, at around 2:10am, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Coe Road, in the Town of Perry, for the report of someone driving onto the complainant’s property and walking around with what the complainant thought was a gun. When confronted, the subjects drove off in a maroon-colored Dodge Ram pickup truck southbound towards Route 20A.
Officers from the Perry Police Department patrolled the northern area of the village and observed a vehicle matching the description come from Route 246 and enter the village on North Center Street. An investigative traffic stop was conducted, and Russell L. Allen, 40, of Nunda was identified as the driver of the vehicle. While investigating the trespassing complaint and working with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, it was discovered that Allen had a non-driver ID only that was revoked in New York State. A loaded 12-gauge Mossburg shotgun was also located inside the vehicle and with Allen being a five-time convicted felon, he could not legally possess the firearm.
Allen is charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree (loaded firearm), criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree (convicted felon), aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, use of rented/leased/loaned vehicle without interlock device and unlicensed operator.
Allen was arraigned in the Town of Warsaw Court in front of the Honorable Judge Fusani and was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of no bail due to Allen having two or more prior felony convictions. Allen is scheduled to appear in the Perry Village Court at a later date.
