City Councilmember At-Large Jeremy Karas resigned from his position on City Council on Wednesday.
“After I couldn’t make the last three meetings unfortunately, I had to make a decision.”
Karas says his job as Service Manager for Temp-Press has become more demanding.
“We’re looking at expanding in the next year and we still have been struggling to find more help that we can count on so there’s been weeks I work over 70 hours. Something had to give,” says Karas.
Karas, who is originally from Elba and grew up in the farming community, says he is used to the heavy workload. He started with Temp-Press four years ago. Karas says his job requires him to be out of town at least seven weeks a year and that does not include emergency calls. Temp Press provides a line of industrial products including pressure gauges, steam filters, steam traps, filtration equipment, valves, hoses, fittings, piping specialties, temperature controllers, HVAC items, and process control instrumentation. They service municipalities and private businesses across New York and parts of Pennsylvania.
Karas says if his circumstances change down the road, he would like to return to serving the public.
“It’s definitely been a very educational experience and I will truly miss some of the people I’ve met while serving. I hope that somewhere down the road circumstances might change, and I would be able to return to public service but unfortunately, I just do not have the time it deserves to have dedicated to the position for the foreseeable future.”
Karas was appointed to City Council in September of 2019 to fill a vacancy after Adam Tabelski resigned from the position after his wife Rachael Tabelski was named Assistant City Manager. After serving the remaining of Adam’s term, Karas was elected to serve another two-year term. Karas was just recently re-elected in November of 2021 and just started his second two-year term.
His last day as Councilmember At-Large will be February 12, 2022.
