GENESEE COUNTY/Woman rescued after house fire in Oakfield

UPDATE:

Oakfield Fire responded to 12 Coe avenue for a reported structure fire with smoke in the basement about 9:36p.m. on Saturday evening.

One occupant of the house was trapped in the basement area and was extricated by responding fire crews including the City of Batavia Fast Team in a second alarm response. The occupant was transported to Strong Hospital by Mercy ambulance for smoke inhalation and her condition is unknown at this time.

Several house pets were found inside the residence and saved. However, two cats were found deceased due to the fire.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, and a full investigation is being conducted by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office along with Genesee County Emergency Management. Also assisting with the investigation is Oakfield Fire, Alabama Fire, Elba Fire and the City of Batavia Fire Department.
