WYOMING COUNTY/Two residents were rescued after fire broke out in their home in Attica

Two occupants were rescued from their burning home by a passing NYS Trooper, Attica Police and a nurse along with passing citizens, after a fire broke out in their home at 44 Market street in the Village of Attica on May 9. 2022 at 4:31p.m.

One occupant was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The home is owned by John LaVarnway.

The home is a total loss, and the Red Cross is assisting the occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, it is believed to have started on the back porch.

Attica, Alexander, Alden, Bennington, Darien, Cowlesville, Town of Batavia, Wyoming and Wyoming Correctional all responded to the scene.

Also assisting on scene, Wyoming County Emergency Management, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, National Grid, Red Cross, NYS Police, Attica Police, and Attica DPW. Crews were on scene for about 6 hours.
