PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Houghton resident on a felony charge following an investigation by the Perry Police Department.
On Thursday, May 19, 2022, officers from the Perry Police Department received a complaint regarding a
possible order of protection violation. Upon investigating the complaint, officers developed probable cause that Gerald L. Morgan, 50, of Houghton, NY, allegedly violated a stay away order of protection issued by the Wyoming County Court, by communicating with the protected party.
An arrest warrant was then issued by Judge Kelsey of Perry Village Court, and officers coordinated with the New York State Police (Fillmore Barracks) to execute that warrant.
On May 21, 2022, at around 10:13p.m., Morgan was taken into custody from the New York State Police without incident after executing the warrant at Morgan’s residence. Morgan was transported to the Perry Village Court where he was arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge McLaughlin. Morgan was charged with criminal contempt 1st degree, a class E felony.
The Wyoming County Public Defender’s Office was also present to represent Morgan during the arraignment. The Wyoming County District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regard to a bail recommendation, and it was recommended that Morgan be remanded with no bail due to Morgan having two or more prior felony convictions.
Following the arraignment, Morgan was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of no bail and is scheduled to appear in the Perry Village Court on June 7, 2022, at 1:00p.m.
