GENESEE COUNTY/County waives application fee for civil service exams

County wants to remove potential financial barriers and increase number of applicants for various openings

Press release

BATAVIA, NY – In an effort to increase the applicant pool for various job openings, Genesee County has announced it is temporarily waiving fees associated with Civil Service Examinations.

All Civil Service Examination announcements advertised between June 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022, will be free of charge for all employees and community members.

“Like many sectors of the economy, there is a strong demand for workers in county government,” said Genesee County Manager Matt Landers. “Sometimes people are hesitant to pay a fee to take a civil service exam so by so by eliminating it, we hope this might entice more people to take the exam, including current employees seeking other positions within county government.”

Exam fees are typically $25 for all open competitive and promotional exams for probation and emergency services dispatcher titles and uniformed titles in the fields of police/sheriff, corrections and fire. The fee for all other open competitive or promotional examinations is typically $20.

“We will reassess the waiver protocol at the end of the year,” Landers said.
