The Genesee County Parks Department and Oakfield/Alabama Lions Club held a free Fishing Derby at DeWitt Recreational Area on Saturday, during the DEC Free Fishing weekend.
Kids up to age 16 were able to enter the Derby. 17 kids from the surrounding area enjoyed the free fishing day, including one child that was visiting from Canada. Nightcrawlers were donated by Walmart of Batavia.
Winners of today’s Fishing Derby are Alaina Frye. age 6. of Medina, NY, with a 6-inch bluegill, and Cameron Piskorowski, age 5, of Elba, NY, with a 7-inch bluegill.
Winners of the door prizes are Lemuel Oles, he won the live bait bucket donated by Batavia Marine & Sporting Supplies, Addison Forsyth, with the fishing pole, donated by Smith’s Great Outdoors, and Hadley Hinkson with the combo pack of fishing tools.
