David M. Sherman, 56, was arrested by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office following a domestic incident investigation on Rt. 39 in the town of Pike on December 5, 2022.
A Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured during the course of the investigation when the suspect allowed an aggressive dog out of the residence, refusing to comply with orders to contain the animal inside the residence.
The dog attacked the deputy. According to scanner reports, the deputy suffered three bite wounds on the arm and pepper spray was also deployed.
Sherman was arrested and charged with assault 2nd degree, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, criminal contempt 1st degree, and menacing 3rd degree.
Sherman was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court before Judge Fusani, and held at the Wyoming County Jail on no bail due to his criminal history. Sherman is scheduled to appear in Pike Town Court on December 13, 2022.
The injured Sheriff’s deputy was treated at the Wyoming County Community Hospital and was discharged shortly thereafter. NYS Police-Warsaw assisted at the scene.
Update: According to the Sheriff’s Department, the dog was reported as a Pit-bull/Mastiff mix. The animal was removed by a Wyoming County Animal Control as it had previously bitten another person recently.
