Crossroads House of Batavia celebrated 25 years in the community with a Red-Carpet Gala at Batavia Downs on Saturday evening.
The event celebrated all who have volunteered at Batavia’s only comfort care home and all who are part of the Crossroads House community, including the families of those who have passed. About 250 people were in attendance.
“To hear all of the different stories shared here. Its gratitude that we have this service, that our people are so compassionate and that there is good in the world,” says founder Kathy Panepento.
Panepento says it was refreshing to hear so much of the positive.
“You hear so much negative, but to hear the stories of our caregivers and the little things that they did and how appreciative the family was. We as caregivers get so much more out of it, more than what we give. It fills our soul. Its food for our health, it’s such a humbling experience and such an intimate time. We celebrate the life that the person lived and make sure they die well. There is compassion in the world, you gotta look for it, but its right here at Crossroads House.”
