GENESEE COUNTY/Town of Batavia/One person is dead after a three-vehicle collision on Rt. 5

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a three-car fatal motor vehicle collision that
occurred on Route 5 in the Town of Batavia. The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center
received a 9-1-1 call reporting the accident at 6:36PM. It was initially reported as a two-car motor
vehicle collision with an ejection. When patrols arrived on scene, it was determined that the driver
of one of the vehicles was deceased.

The driver was identified as Maryellen Wilber, age 68, of Batavia NY. Wilber was operating a gray 2021 Hyundai suburban. Wilber was traveling westbound on Route 5 in the Town of Batavia when her vehicle crossed over the double solid yellow line and struck a 2014 Ford F-350 and then a 2015 Jeep Cherokee.

Both the Ford and Jeep were traveling eastbound. The operator of the Ford F-350 was not injured. The operator of the Jeep was transported to Erie County Medical Center with lower body injuries. Genesee County Coroner Karen Lang pronounced Wilber dead at the scene. The cause of the collision is still under
investigation by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred about 6:30P.M. on Friday evening, just west of 3833 West Main Street Road.

According to Sgt. Kyle Krzemien, a silver vehicle was headed west on West Main Street Road, and for some unknown reason crossed over into the eastbound lanes of traffic, striking an SUV and a pickup truck. The female driver of the silver vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The male driver of the orange SUV suffered a lower body injury and was transported to ECMC by ground ambulance as Mercy Flight could not fly due to weather. The male driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

The Sheriff’s Department will provide more information in a press release later this evening.
