The Batavia Town Board approved the sale of 4.26 acres of land located at 60 Evans Street to the Batavia Development Corporation (BDC) a not-for-profit organization, at their Regular Town Board meeting on March 15, 2023.
The Town Board voted 5-0 to approve the resolution and will transfer the property to the BDC for $10.00. The sale is subject to a permissive referendum.
The property at 60 Evans Street has been vacant for over a decade and has been underutilized according to the resolution. It is adjacent to the City property at 26 Evans Street and the County’s property at 8 Evans Street.
“The Town and BDC recently prioritized the transfer of the Town’s estimated 4 acres as it has been in motion for over two years,” says Tammy Hathaway, Director of Economic Development for the BDC.
The City of Batavia and Genesee County are also working with the BDC to sell their parcels to the BDC to create a property called The Creek Park Parcel. The City parcel is 3.74 acres and the County’s parcel is 3.92 acres.
“The BDC has been working for quite some time with the three owning entities of the Creek Park parcel (Genesee County, the City of Batavia and the Town of Batavia) to move the site into the prep stage for development. This parcel is in an opportunity zone in the Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) and has been identified as a prime site for market-rate housing development.”
The process for the sale of the City and County parcels to the BDC has not started as of yet.
“The preliminary plan is, once the conveyance of title to the BDC is complete, we will work closely with the County and the City to complete the Phase 2 assessment. This assessment is necessary to determine how we prepare and present the parcel for proposals to redevelop it.”
