A Batavia woman was arrested multiple times following a string of larcenies on March 13, 2023.
.
At around 1:30p.m., Cassandra F. Smith, 37, of Batavia, NY, was arrested by deputies following a
shoplifting complaint at Tops Market in the Town of Warsaw. Smith was stopped and found to
have also allegedly shoplifted from two adjacent stores, Zaza Smoke Shop and WalMart.
Smith was charged with three counts of petit larceny, one for each location, and released with appearance
tickets returnable at a later date. Tops Market and Wal-Mart both trespassed Smith from their
properties.
At around 8:30p.m. on that same day, deputies stopped a suspicious person, Smith, on Rt. 19 in the Town of Warsaw. While speaking with her, the deputy noticed she was allegedly in possession of new clothes that she had not had earlier in the day. These clothes led deputies to believe that Smith may have been involved in another shoplifting incident. Deputies responded to Wal-Mart and discovered
that Smith had gone back to the store and allegedly shoplifted again after her previous arrest and trespass order.
Smith was again arrested, and this time charged with burglary in the 3rd degree and petit larceny.
These charges were arraignable at this time, so Smith was taken to the Town of Warsaw Court
where she was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail on $5,000 bail. Smith is scheduled to appear in
Town Court at a later date
