County Officials Reveal Commemorative Poster and ISO Certified Solar Glasses
Press release
Batavia, NY – This afternoon, the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce officially
launched its planning efforts to celebrate and promote the 2024 total solar eclipse at a
special event held at the Genesee County Visitor Center. During the event, county leaders
and local officials unveiled the County’s commemorative poster, branded ISO certified solar
glasses and community outreach kick off.
On April 8, 2024, Genesee County will be in the path of totality for the total solar eclipse. As
a result, the county will dip into darkness for three minutes and 42 seconds This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for residents and visitors alike, as there won’t be another solar eclipse in this region for 126 years.
The County’s commemorative poster features illustration of a fanciful dairy cow wearing
solar glasses– symbolizing Genesee County’s rich, agricultural heritage – in front of the
eclipsed sun and a row of small-town storefronts that represent its quaint downtown
communities.
The poster’s dark, star-lit sky and tagline, “See It Where the Skies Are Darker,” references the rural nature of Genesee County and the lack of light pollution that it will experience during the eclipse compared to larger cities.
The creative work was directed by Glenn Clark of Crafting a Brand, and illustrated by artist Andy Reddout, of Honeoye Falls.
During the event, the County also unveiled its cow-print solar glasses and eclipse landing
page, GeneSEEtheEclipse.com. The site will share details on eclipse events, activities and
promotions that will be held April 5-8, 2024 across the county and help to build excitement
for the celestial event over the next year.
Community leaders are also excited to welcome visitors to the area to not only experience
the eclipse but experience all that Genesee County has to offer.
“Genesee County is incredibly fortunate to be along the path of totality for the 2024 event.
We anticipate our community businesses and organizations will come out in full force to
put on weekend long eclipse-related events and programming leading up to the big day. We
are enthusiastic about potentially welcoming thousands of visitors into our area of Western
New York,” said Genesee County Chamber President, Brian Cousins. “We are just over a
year away from the occasion and are already counting down the days! This is a once in a
lifetime event that everyone will be able to experience together. It is going to be extremely
special!”
