The City of Batavia Fire Department rescued 14 ducklings from a drain on West Main Street near Oak Street on Friday morning. According to crews on scene, witnesses said the mother duck flew away upon arrival after her ducklings had fallen through the grate into the drain.
City Fire, Batavia Police and City DPW were on scene for over an hour with no signs of the mother duck.
“Crews even checked the creek area with no signs of any adult ducks,” says Captain Bob Fix, City of Batavia Fire Department.
The ducklings were transported to City Fire Headquarters and are in a new temporary habitat while they work on a permanent solution/place for the ducklings.
