Brett Sobieraski started his fundraising efforts in Florida on April 23rd. Since then, he has been running a marathon (about 26 .2 miles a day) though 8 states to raise funds for Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz, an officer with the Rochester Police Department who lost his life in the line of duty in July of 2022.
“Maz”, a 29-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department was shot on Bauman Street along with his partner, Officer Sino Seng Sang, who was treated and released after being shot in the lower body.
Mazurkiewicz was shot in the upper body and was transported to Strong Hospital, where he later died.
So far, the marathon fundraising effort, called 8 States for MAZ, has raised about $80,000 which will be donated to Officer Mazurkiewicz’ family. 8 States for Maz will end with a ceremony on June 11 in Rochester.
People can sign up to walk or run the last three miles on June 11th in Rochester at https://yellowjacketracing.com . The 3 Mile Run/Walk will go from Genesee Valley Park to Halls of Justice Courtyard (99 Exchange Street) in procession behind Retired RPD Sergeant, Brett Sobieraski for his final 3 miles of his final Marathon. 8 States for “Maz” (runsignup.com)
