Video story-interview with Tim Yaeger, Fire Coordinator, Genesee County
A train derailment that occurred just before noon on Monday, will leave several railroad crossings closed for several days.
According to Genesee County Fire Coordinator Tim Yaeger, the derailment affected about a 2-3 mile area of the tracks between Snipery road and Countyline Road. Four rail cars were damaged that were carrying empty trailers. Some of the trailers slid off the rail cars.
Yaeger says the CSX train was headed westbound when the derailment occurred. No one was injured and no hazardous materials were involved. Three of the rail cars came off the tracks east of the Countyline railroad crossing, and one to the west of the Countyline Road crossing. Both rail lines east and west will be closed for now.
According to Yaeger, a preliminary investigation shows a possible mechanical malfunction with components of the train or the rail. CSX will inspect and repair sections of the rails that were damaged in the derailment and tracks will be closed for several days.
Thanks for the update on this 😊👌 have a great day today and I am sure that you will be trying your best to get this resolved and get the train station running again and the train tracks and the roads opened up again for the traffic to use it once you get your jobs done with the tragic event that has happened.
