GENESEE COUNTY/LeRoy Garden Club announces their 2023 College Scholarship winner

Le Roy, NY— June 20, 2023 — The Town and Country Garden Club of Le Roy is pleased to announce that it has awarded its 2023 College Scholarship of $500 to Michael Covert, a 2023 graduate of Le Roy High School. The Club’s Scholarship Committee chose Michael as the recipient based on his scholastic record and community service.

Michael is currently a member of the Farmers Market Board of Directors in addition to volunteering at the weekly event throughout the past several summers. He will attend Ohio State University in the fall to pursue environmental and related studies with the intention to join the Park Ranger Service. Michael also volunteers with the American Warrior Recruit Training Program, which coaches young people to help them qualify for military service.

“We had 3 highly qualified applicants this year,” said Lucy MacKenzie, Scholarship Committee Chair. “It was a tough decision, but Michael’s interest in the environment impressed us and is a good fit with the Club’s mission.”
