The Village of Attica community gathered at Market and Main Street in Attica on Saturday morning, to officially dedicate a newly installed clock in honor of the late Hans and Rosemarie Moeller, who operated Hans Moeller Jewelry and clock repair store at 2 Main Street for many years.
Susan Moeller Mazmanian, of California, daughter of Hans and Rosemarie Moeller, was on hand to express what the clock means to her and her family since there are no other members of the Moeller family living in the area.
“My dad was a Lions Club member for 65 years, it has so many memories when I look at it and its for them and what an honor, but I mean really its everybody, and it just shows you that small town spirit to really, really care about your neighbors and your friends,” says Moeller Mazmanian.
Susan says she worked in the store with her parents while in high school and says their business flourished by word of mouth throughout the community.
“Everybody knows they were the happy people, and so he got to sell engagement rings, he dealt with bridal showers, all happiness, I sometimes knew people were getting engaged before they did.”
Hans’ watchmaking plans were delayed after initially arriving in America from Germany.
He served in the Korean War as an optics specialist until being honorably discharged due to tuberculosis. Hans had to stay quarantined at the VA hospital for two years upon his return home. The hospital allowed Hans to practice his watchmaking skills from his room. After he was discharged, he and his wife Rosie opened their small shop in Attica which was known all over WNY as Hans Moeller’s Jewelers.

The clock is located across the way near the Hans Moeller Jewelry store at 2 Main Street that is still in operation today and is now owned by Bill Hardie for over 30 years.
After a few delays due to the Pandemic, on June 1st, installation was completed. The project has been in the works since 2020, according to Luke Harding, Board member with the Attica Lions Club.
“It came about because Hans and Rosemarie chose the Attica Lions Club as their memorial spot and we had an influx of money due to the generosity from people that thought highly of them, so we decided it would be nice to honor them and the Village of Attica with the clock,” says Luke Harding.
Before the park area was created at Market and Main, an old gazebo occupied the space.
“We were looking for ways to create a nice community project and came up with the idea of putting this clock downtown,” says Ted Harding Treasurer of the Attica Lions Club.
“After they put this park in, the Lions Club came through and put a nice flag up, we put the Attica Vets sign up and then we thought it was great idea to honor the Moellers with a memorial and use the money that was given to us towards this clock.”
“Our DPW guys helped install it and worked with the Lions Club, says Nathan Montford, Mayor Village of Attica.
Chomko LA LLC. out of Allison Park, Pennsylvania created the clock.
“It’s absolutely a great addition to the downtown district here, every time we stop at the intersection or drive by, even if it’s just passersby or people who live in the community, they can stop by and look at it and tell time and always remember the work that Hans has done for the community,” says Mayor Montford.
The project couldn’t have been completed without help from the Village of Attica, Dan Snyder, David Ciurzynski and Ted Harding.
