On August 18, 2023, at around 3:48a.m., a deputy with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office
was conducting stationary radar on Route 20A in the Town of Perry, when a grey sedan
was observed traveling eastbound allegedly at 57mph in a marked 40mph zone. A vehicle and traffic
enforcement stop was conducted near Simmons Road and the driver of the vehicle was identified
as Geraldo J. Celeste, 28, of Bronx, NY.
During the roadside interview, Celeste allegedly exhibited signs of possible impairment and a roadside
DWI investigation was conducted. Following standardized field sobriety testing, Celeste was
placed under arrest for driving while ability impaired by drugs and was transported to the
Perry Police Department where a drug influence evaluation was conducted by a New York State
Certified Drug Recognition Expert.
Following the evaluation, it was the DRE’s expert opinion that Celeste was allegedly under the influence of one or more drugs and could not operate a motor vehicle safely upon a highway.
Celeste is charged with DWAI/drugs and speeding in a zone. Celeste was processed and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Perry Town Court at a later date.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Habib S. Tarafder, 59, of Princeton, NJ, following a traffic stop in the Town of Perry on August 24, 2023 at 12:39a.m.
Deputies on patrol observed a vehicle allegedly traveling at 58 MPH in a 40 MPH speed zone in the Town of Perry and conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that Tarafder had two active revocations on his license.
Tarafder was arrested and issued citations for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree and speeding
in a zone.
Tarafder is to answer the charges on October 4, 2023 in the Town of Perry Court.

Lawrence Major, 38, of Poughkeepsie, NY, was arrested by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, after
he was observed operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration on August 22, 2023.
Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on the vehicle and subsequently charged Majors with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating without insurance, and uninspected motor vehicle. Major’s vehicle was towed from the scene. Major was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in Perry Town Court at a later date.

On August 17, 2023, at around 07:30a.m., Russell W. Hamilton, 60, of Canisteo, NY, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 246 in the Town of Covington.
Hamilton is charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked registration.
Hamilton was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Covington Town Court at a later date.
