UPDATE: The Department is back in service as of Thursday September 28th, according to Tim Yaeger.
In a notice to volunteer members of the South Byron Volunteer Fire Company on Friday, the company is out of service until further notice due to the company not having active insurance.
Secretary Elizabeth Penkszyk advised members on behalf of Chief Brian Hickey on Friday. No equipment or manpower is allowed out of the hall until the situation has been rectified.
“Per Chief Hickey they are addressing an insurance policy issue. He feels they will have the matter addressed and return the company back in service on Monday the 25th,” says Tim Yaeger, Fire Coordinator/Genesee County Emergency Management
Yaeger says the South Byron Fire Protection District is being covered by automatic mutual aid by the Byron and Stafford fire companies.
All fire companies carry insurance for their vehicles and facilities.
