UPDATE:
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident involving an SUV in the area of 4077 Route 5, in the Town of Batavia.
The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1 -l call reporting the accident at 6:55 PM.
Upon arrival, patrols located a male laying in the roadway who was struck by a 2020 Gray
Volkswagen SUV, operated by Brittany Hill, 27, of Akron, NY. The male pedestrian was
identified as Robert M. Schryver, 60, of Batavia, NY.
Hill was traveling westbound on Route 5 when Schryver attempted to cross Route 5 on foot,
entering the westbound lane of travel from the north shoulder. Schryver was struck by Hill ‘s vehicle causing him to sustain serious injuries. Schryver was transported to UMMC via Mercy EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, members of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Genesee
County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team are conducting a full investigation into the
matter. Assisting at scene were members of the Town of Batavia Fire Department, City of Batavia
Police, New York State Police and Mercy EMS.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian accident that occurred in the area of 4077 Rt. 5 in the Town of Batavia on Wednesday evening about 6:55p.m.
Upon arrival, patrols located a male laying in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by a gray SUV. The SUV was traveling west on Rt. 5 when the male entered the roadway from the north shoulder. The pedestrian failed to yield the right of way to westbound traffic and was struck by the SUV, as a result the male suffered fatal injuries.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office along with the Crash Management Team are conducting a full investigation into the matter. Further details will be released upon notification of next of kin.
