BATAVIA/One person transported to the hospital after three alarm fire on McKinley Avenue

Video Update on fire

Water issues, windy conditions and cold weather along with manpower were all issues in a Sunday afternoon three alarm house fire on McKinley Avenue in the City Batavia.

When fire crews arrived on scene, the closest fire hydrant at the end of McKinley Avenue was not operational and crews had to lay in lines from Harvester Avenue to get water on the fire. Operations were kept to a defensive attack as winds whipped flames through the two-story home in a matter of minutes.

One adult female and two juveniles were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate the residence. The adult female resident was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.

When crews arrived on scene, fire was coming from the front door section of the house and quickly spread. At this time, crews are investigating and looking for the cause of the blaze.

After the fire was put out, a woman approached the scene who said she was visiting and was not home at the time. She was looking for her dog. Chief Graham says he is not sure of the status of the dog. A press release will be put out at a later time with more information.

  1. Why do all articles say there was only one family in the home? It’s an apartment for two a family was also living above the home and the whole thing is down in flames so in reality 2 families are at a lost.

  2. 6 people were home at the time not just 3 can we please mention that! My family is not getting the notice we deserve and our home is at a loss as well!
