Press release
The City of Batavia Police and Fire Departments will face off at their annual charitable hockey game on Sunday, February 25th at 6:30 P.M. with proceeds once again going to the David M. McCarthy Memorial Foundation.
David McCarthy was a decorated athlete when he attended Batavia High School in the mid-1990s. Funds raised through the Foundation have been used to support local athletic programs and to enhance and upgrade local athletic facilities as well as to help offset the costs for spring training trips for Batavia High School baseball and softball teams, cross-ice boards for the Genesee Amateur Hockey Association, fencing for the Batavia Minor League, among many others.
“The City of Batavia Police Department hockey team promises to take it easy on the City of Batavia Fire Department team,” said Batavia Police Chief Shawn Heubusch. “At the end of the day and after all the back-and-forth trash-talking that may occur before and during the game, the players from both teams know that they are giving back to the community as they do every day in providing public safety to our community.”
The game once again is set for the David McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena at 22 Evans Street, Batavia, NY 14020. Tickets are $10 and free for children under 10 years of age and are only available for purchase by clicking here. There will be a 50-50 raffle during the game. For more information, please contact Marc Witt at Mwitt.canusa@gmail.com. “We hope the community will once again come out and support the great work of Foundation and the City of Batavia’s first responders in what will be another exhilarating, fast-paced and entertaining hockey game,” Chief Heubusch said.
