GENESEE COUNTY/Four Buffalo teens in a stolen Kia charged after police pursuit on the thruway

On May 7, 2024 at approximately 12:36a.m., Deputy Gechell attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a black Kia Forte at the Batavia Thruway entrance. The Kia Forte fled from Deputy Gechell at high rates of speed and began to travel east on the Thruway.

During the pursuit, it was discovered that the Kia Forte had been reported stolen from the Town of Eden.

The Kia Forte continued to flee at high rates of speed on the Thruway and attempted to get off the Thruway at the Le Roy exit and attempted to go east on Route 490. Deputy Mullen set up spike strips on the exit ramp and had a positive hit on three of the Kia Forte’s tires.

The operator of the vehicle and a passenger in the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, east on the 490. After a foot pursuit, Sergeant Clor and Deputy Gechell placed the female operator of the vehicle
and a male passenger in custody. Le Roy Police Officer Martek located another male passenger attempting to hide in a ditch near the Kia Forte and he was placed into custody. A fourth person, a female passenger, ran into the woods near the Thruway and was ordered out and placed into custody. All four suspects were juveniles from the City of Buffalo.

The parents and guardians of the juveniles were notified.

All four juveniles were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, a
class D felony. The female operator of the vehicle was also issued several traffic tickets.

All four Juveniles were released to their parents or guardians and were issued appearance tickets by Investigator Forsyth.
