Press release
BATAVIA – Registration for the August 17th Downtown Batavia Business Improvement District
(BID) Boxcar Derby launches Wednesday, following a thank you to boxcar sponsor, My Cut
Barbershop.
The BID business is sponsoring one of the 32 cars that racers will assemble and race this
summer. BID Director Shannon Maute said the BID’s Downtown Business of the Year was the
ideal place to ramp up and host a BID-branded boxcar.
“We encourage our racers to show their talents, their personalities, and their dedication,”
Maute said. “My Cut Barbershop and our BID leaders do that every day in their businesses
and our community, and we applaud them for sponsoring one of our great racers this year.”
The Aug. 17th derby will once again be held at Centennial Park, with children aged 7-10
competing as they race down Ellicott Avenue.
Registration for the first 32 sign-ups with completed forms and a $20 entry fee per racer will
open with a booth at John Kennedy Intermediate School, 166 Vine Street, from 6:30 to 7:30
p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th during the MUD Run.
Additional forms will be available by request to Maute at director@downtownbataviany.com.
“We’re excited to host another great day of fun, family-friendly activities as we celebrate the
skills and sportsmanship of our racers,” Maute said
