Press release
At approximately 6:00pm on May 14, 2024, a Correction Officer in the Wyoming County Jail
was conducting rounds when a 19-year-old incarcerated individual was located unresponsive
lying on his bunk in his cell.
Jail personnel immediately began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the incarcerated individual was pronounced deceased at the Wyoming County Jail by a Wyoming County Coroner.
As is the case with all in-custody deaths, the case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commision of Correction for external review. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details will be released at this time.
The incarcerated individual’s name will not be released until all family notifications have been completed.
