6,300 volunteers fill needs across six counties

ROCHESTER, NY – Today, United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes is bringing together a record-breaking 6,300 volunteers for the single largest volunteer effort across the region, Day of Caring. United Way has been mobilizing volunteers through Day of Caring for 30 years. Over 250 workplaces completed 450 projects for 200 agencies throughout Monroe, Livingston, Genesee, Ontario, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
Day of Caring projects include outdoor beautification, painting, planting community gardens, organizing clothing, sorting food, and community engagement for older adults.
“Every year, our workplace partners raise their hands and roll up their sleeves for our vital nonprofit sector,” said United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes President & CEO Jaime Saunders. “The fact 250 local organizations helped mobilize thousands of volunteers throughout our region, stepping away from their own vital work to help others, is truly remarkable.”

United Way utilized its volunteer platform, Volunteer United, to mobilize volunteers for Day of Caring. This year, volunteer teams have a chance of winning $250 for their nonprofit site by participating in a social media contest.
