BATAVIA/Driver ticketed in May 17th accident at Ellicott and Jackson Street

***Update*** The Batavia Police Department has concluded its investigation into the accident, with the preliminary investigation findings appearing to be accurate. Both the driver and passenger of the 2012 Ford Focus were treated, released, and expected to recover fully.

The driver of the Focus responded to BPD HQ on 05/25/2024 and was issued a traffic ticket for VTL 1111(d)1 – Passed red signal returnable to Batavia City Court on 05/29/2024 at 9:30 AM.

On 5/17/2024, at about 9:30pm, the Batavia Police Department responded, along with the City of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS, to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Ellicott St and Jackson St. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Ford Focus was traveling southbound on Jackson St and ran the red light at Ellicott St. The car was hit, on the passenger side by a tractor-trailer, that was traveling eastbound on Ellicott St. Both occupants of the Ford Focus sustained significant injuries, and were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and charges are pending. The City of Batavia Police Department was assisted at the scene by City of Batavia Fire, Mercy EMS and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team.
