On June 17, 2024 at approximately 10:53 P.M., a Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling Route 20A in the Town of Orangeville and stopped a vehicle for failure to maintain lane.
After speaking with the operator of the vehicle, Jose R. Mendoza, age 32, of Binghamton, NY, the deputy recognized signs of impairment from alcohol. Mendoza was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing which he performed poorly on. Mendoza was arrested for VTL 1192-3 Driving While Intoxicated.
After a vehicle search, Mendoza was found to allegedly be in possession of a 9mm handgun along with a 30-round magazine which was located in the center console of the vehicle. The handgun was a Polymer 80 that did not have any identifying serial numbers [Ghost Gun].
Mendoza was found to be a convicted felon with a 2015 felony conviction in Broome County Court. Mendoza was also found to have been previously convicted of VTL 1192-3 Driving While Intoxicated.
Mendoza was transported to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office where he submitted to a breath test to determine his breath alcohol content (BrAC).
Mendoza was arrested and charged with VTL 1192-3 Felony Driving While Intoxicated, VTL 1192-2 Felony Driving With .08% BAC or Higher, PL 265.03(03) Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree – Loaded Firearm, PL 265.02(01) Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree – Previous Conviction, PL 265.02(08) Criminal Possession of a Weapon – Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, PL 265.01(09) Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree – Possess Ghost Gun, along with various VTL infractions.
Mendoza was arraigned in Warsaw Town Court, and was remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 cash bail, $20,000.00 bond, or $40,000.00 partially secured bond.
Mendoza’s next court appearance wis scheduled for June 26, 2024 in Orangeville Town Court.
