Warsaw, New York, July 2, 2024 Wyoming County Community Health System (WCCHS) announced today that CEO David Kobis will be leaving his position at the end of 2024. Asked about the reason for his departure, Kobis stated that he was very pleased with the progress the health system had made over the last two years but wanted to spend more time with his family in Florida. WCCHS has made tremendous improvements since the COVID-19 crisis. The hospital recently announced that it had received approval to convert to a Critical Access designation, providing an additional $3M or more in annual revenue. Additionally, a number of new physicians have joined WCCHS, including orthopedics, general surgery, pain management, cardiology, hospitalists, and ophthalmology. After many years of financial losses, including $22M in 2022, the health system reduced the deficit to $9M in 2023 and anticipates a loss below $5M in 2024. WCCHS is optimistic to reach breakeven status over the next 18 months.
“While we are saddened by Dave’s departure, we appreciate his strong leadership over the last two years,” said Rebecca Ryan, Chairwoman, Wyoming County Board of Supervisors and Richard Kosmerl, President, WCCHS Board of Managers. “He brought stability to an organization recovering from the sudden passing of former CEO Joe McTernan and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dave helped put WCCHS on the right path to long term financial stability and growth.”
WCCHS will begin a search for a replacement CEO immediately.
