77-year-old man succumbs to injury, his wife transported to Strong Hospital via Mercy Flight for treatment

On August 2nd, 2024 at approximately 10:06 AM, the Wyoming County 911 Center received several calls of a tree that had fallen onto a house on Thompson Avenue in the Town of Castile. Reports were also received of live wires down in the area and two people trapped in the debris.
Through investigation, it was discovered that a husband and wife were departing their stay from an Air Bed and Breakfast at the time of the incident. The couple were outside loading their vehicle when a tree collapsed, striking the front of the residence and several nearby cars, bringing down power lines and causing extensive damage.
Investigators say falling debris from the residential structure struck the male resident in the head who was identified as David Denham, 77, of West Winfield, NY. Neighbors were able to pull Denham from the debris and start life saving measures. He was transported by the Town of Perry Ambulance to the Wyoming County Community Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Linda Denham, 77, of West Winfield, NY, was also struck by falling debris and transported by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
