BATAVIA/Winner announced in the 3rd Annual BID Boxcar Derby

Kyle Mlyniec, 8, of Batavia, NY, is the first-place winner in the 3rd Annual BID Boxcar Derby held on Ellicott Avenue in Batavia on Saturday morning.

Mlyniec participated in last year’s Boxcar Derby, but this is the first time he has placed in the event. He says his sister and his dad helped him with his car this year. Mlyniec finished almost a car length ahead of second place finisher 8-year-old Hudson Umlauf. (Finish picture below)

Coming in third was 9-year-old Ellias Pamer, who placed 2nd in the Oakfield Boxcar Derby at the end of July.

24 racers competed for the Suozzi Memorial Cup.

“Seeing the amazing boxcar designs, the excitement on kids’ faces at our build day, and the families taking part all show why this event is so special,” said Shannon Maute BID Director.

“It truly takes a community to bring our great race together. With the generous support of our sponsors, partners and volunteers, the BID Boxcar Derby will make lasting memories for our families and racers.”

Centennial Park offered free face painting and games, along with pizza, ice cream, coffee and hot chocolate available from vendors. WBTA broadcasted the event live.
