BATAVIA/Caledonia woman dies after Creek Road crash

Press release

At approximately 9:37 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024, the Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received a call for a report of power lines down in the roadway on Creek Rd at the City of Batavia line. The City of Batavia Fire Department and Batavia Police Department responded and located a power pole in the roadway with an overturned vehicle on fire down an embankment in the wooded area to the east side of Creek Rd. Believing someone may have been in the vehicle, police and fire personnel entered the car and extinguished the fire.

A female, later identified as Tanysha Thomas, 24, Caledonia, was pulled from the vehicle and transported to UMMC, where she was pronounced deceased. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicated that Thomas was heading north on Creek Rd when she lost control of the vehicle while navigating a turn. The car struck a telephone pole, then a tree, and rolled down the embankment, landing on its roof. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team assisted at the scene and the investigation is ongoing at this time. Also assisting at the scene was Mercy EMS.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Batavia Police Department at 585-345-6350.
