GENESEE COUNTY/Car failed to yield the right of way, colliding with ambulance in Thursday afternoon accident

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-car motor vehicle accident that
occurred on Route 98 at the intersection of Batavia-Elba Town Line Road.

The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1-1 call reporting the accident with rollover and entrapment at 2:54PM. A preliminary investigation indicates that a Mercy EMS ambulance was traveling northbound on Route 98, when a 2024 Kia traveling eastbound on Batavia-Elba Town Line
Road failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection, colliding with the ambulance.

As a result of the collision, the ambulance rolled over onto its roof coming to rest. Two individuals
occupied the sedan. The driver was transported via ground ambulance and the passenger was
transported via Mercy Flight to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.

The Mercy EMS ambulance was occupied by its crew and a patient. The patient was transported via ground ambulance to United Memorial Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident was investigated by members of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting
at the scene were members of the Town of Batavia, Elba and Byron Fire Departments and Mercy
EMS.
