GENESEE COUNTY/Motorcyclist dies after colliding with SUV head on in Stafford on Saturday

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal car vs. motorcycle crash that occurred in the area of 6496 Route 33 in the Town of Stafford on Saturday.

The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1-I call on September 14th, 2024 reporting a personal injury accident at 05:36 PM.

Upon arrival, patrols observed a 2007 black Yamaha motorcycle that had collided head on with a 2024 white Ford Edge. Deputies identified the operator and sole occupant of the black Yamaha as Michael J. Ciarpelli, age 20, of Rochester N.Y.

The operator of the white Ford was Luanne E. Andrews, age 76, of West Henrietta, N.Y. Also in
the vehicle was a passenger, Colleen L. O’Mara, age 67, of West Henrietta, N.Y.

Ciarpelli was traveling westbound on Route 33 when he attempted to pass two vehicles in front of him. Andrews was making a left turn off of Griswold Road and began traveling east on Route 33. As Ciarpelli attempted to pass both vehicles in front of him, he collided with the white Ford Edge head on in the
eastbound lane of travel. Ciarpelli was ejected from the motorcycle and located on the
north shoulder of Route 33. Ciarpelli was pronounced deceased at the scene by Genesee County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is currently being investigated by Sergeant Andrew Hale, Sergeant Richard Schildwaster, Investigator Kevin Forsyth, along with Deputies Joshua Brabon and Jacob Kipler. Assisting at the scene were members of the Byron Fire Department, South Byron Fire Department, Stafford Fire Department, and Mercy EMS.
