Arc GLOW Friends and Family 5k celebrates 20 years of raising funds for Arc disability services and the Mary Anne Graney Memorial Scholarship. The Friends and Family 5K began as a memorial to Mary Anne Graney, a parent, educator, advocate and friend to Arc GLOW who died in 2004. Her dedication to people with IDD and their families. The Mary Anne Graney Memorial Scholarship program, which is presented to area high school seniors planning to further their studies in human services, special education or related fields. The event also helps fund various programs and services Arc GLOW offers for individuals with IDD.
“The first three years we were in Batavia. 17 years ago, we made the decision to move to the country and it was the best decision ever,” says Race Director/Coordinator for Community Relations Arc GLOW, Sandy Konfederath.
“We have incorporated a country theme, we have produce to give away, it’s just a gigantic success this year, 20 years. Leading up to this morning we had 230 people registered, not sure how many walk ins.”
Video clip from start of race-the event was held at the Elba Day Hab at 4603 Barrville Road. Brandon Rebert, of Oakfield, NY, was the first-place runner on the male side with a finish time of 19:18, and Kim Mills, also of Oakfield, NY, was the first-place winner on the women’s side with a time of 20:34.
