The Pembroke Youth Association Football and Cheer teams held their annual Pink Games at Pembroke High School on Saturday. The Association football and cheer teams have been raising funds for breast cancer research since the beginning of the season in July.
“We just celebrate our support for those that have breast cancer or are going through something really tough, it’s just our way to give back to our wonderful community,” says Katy Hobbs, Cheer Commissioner/PYA.
The teams are part of the Niagara Orleans Football Association.
According to Hobbs, all PYA teams from beginners to varsity participated in the Pink Games against Attica. The cheerleaders held can drives at every home game during the season and collected about 3,000 cans. $130 was donated to breast cancer research. The football teams held raffles during the home games and donated a portion of the proceeds to breast cancer research as well.
The season ends in mid-October and football teams will then participate in the playoffs and championships, while the cheer teams will participate in Cheer Zone at GCC the first Saturday of November.
A chicken barbeque was also held with proceeds going to the PYA to assist with the cost of uniforms and other Association expenses.
